Dear Friend,

I just made the most important decision of my life.

You know me as a gadfly and political satirist. I am a comedian, but this is no joke.

I have officially decided to challenge Senator Charles “Chuck” Schumer in next year’s New York’s Democratic Primary.

I am outraged by the fact that Schumer talks like a “liberal,” but acts as sell-out to the same corporate interests that funded the Republican Party and the Bush dynasty for the past three decades. Schumer has consistently traded his votes to kill oversight and regulation on Wall Street, and for deregulation of banking and insurance – in return for huge campaign contributions for himself and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee he chaired.

“Chuckles the Clown” Schumer has been a disaster on foreign policy issues, criminal justice and civil rights issues, privacy issues, human rights issues and social issues. His main function is to be a lackey for Wall Street and big banking interests and has shown little interest if any for the average hard working American seeking to navigate through this rough economic downturn.

For instance, Schumer originally opposed gay marriage – until I said on a prominent radio talk show in Albany (Fred Dicker Live) that I was weighing a challenge to him, at the urging of Roseanne Barr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSBmXG1_DyQ, Polk Award winning journalists Jeremy Scahill and Robert Knight, civil rights attorney Lenny Weinglass and many of my friends in the Rockefeller Drug Law reform movement and my friend and colleague of over 30 years, the writer Larry David. Then, in an overnight “miracle,” following my on-air attack, the meticulous media maven Schumer changed his position! I was further encouraged to contemplate entering the race after reading an article about my prospects in the popular liberal blogs The New Argument and Alternet.

I know what you’re thinking: A “political comedian” running for the Senate? Ridiculous!

Sure, I was encouraged by the victory of Al Franken in Minnesota, as a progressive. And if any real progressive Democrat were to have run for this seat, I wouldn’t even be considering this campaign. But an ambitious pack of phony “liberals” are looking at Schumer’s tainted, brimming war-chest, and are instead circling around N.Y. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand — whom they see as the easier prey, – leaving Schumer’s sellouts unchallenged.

I believe it is vital that Chuck Schumer’s real record of hypocrisy — and his role in the country’s financial crash — be made known.

”Schumerism” – the belief in nothing more than power, cash, and the bartering of votes to accumulate power must be defined and exposed for the poorly-served voters of New York State. Schumer collaborated with right wing Texas Senator Phil Gramm to eliminate banking and insurance regulations so the “big-boys” could maintain their larcenous “business as usual.” Today’s banking and Insurance industry crises can be traced to this Schumer-Gramm agenda of deregulation. While parading himself before any and all cameras as a “progressive, Chuck Schumer is as responsible responsible for the crash than George W. Bush, himself!

That is why I have decided to enter this race

I need to raise $250,000 to challenge Schumer with a modern populist and internet-based campaign, along with multiple media appearances. I believe I can inform and mobilize hundreds of thousands of progressive Democrats.

I am challenging Schumer to debate. If he declines, I will stage a debate – playing the role of both Credico and Schumer, just as he plays the dual roles of “progressive” and Wall Street lacky. It will be quite a show: I have Schumer’s voice and mannerisms down perfectly. Needless to say, Schumer will lose! I have already been offered time on Talk1300 AM in Albany to air the “debate” – with or without the real Schumer.

Now that I am a candidate, I must gather enough signatures to get on the Democratic Primary ballot. That alone is a difficult and expensive task in New York State. The Party bosses who support “Schumerism” will use any legal means to keep me off the ballot. That means I will need a brigade of lawyers. And, needless to say, they ain’t cheap!
I need to know I can count on you now that have I decided to run.

Will you help me run the most creative and entertaining guerilla campaign in American political history? As a comedian, impressionist and reformer, I will drive Schumer absolutely nuts – while exposing his true record as a whore for Corporate America.

Chuck Schumer has his war chest stuffed with special-interest cash, but he has no sense of humor. I have no campaign cash but I am pretty goddam funny! I can’t buy expensive TV ads. But I can do talk-radio, cable and television interviews. I am cost-effective because I can do more publicity stunts, and make appearances… as Chuck Schumer!

Chuck Schumer may point out that I once had a problem with drugs and alcohol, as chronicled in the award-winning film, “Sixty Spins Around the Sun.” But Chuck Schumer’s dependency is far more dangerous: Schumer is addicted to power, and has sold out our core progressive principles for hits of campaign cash!

By law you can contribute up to $2400 per individual. No corporate contributions are permitted, and I don’t take PAC checks.

Please send the Committee a check today; anything you contribute will be appreciated and will be used to wage this important fight. You will be able to contribute online by credit card–but first, I need to raise enough to improve my website. If you want to read about my exploratory efforts so far, please visit: www.randycredico2010.org Thanks for your help, and please rush your check to the Committee today!

After all, better a comedian than a “clown” as New York’s next Senator!

Sincerely,

Randy Credico
